Text wedding photos to album: send a link or use a verified receiving service

If you want to text wedding photos to album storage, first distinguish a text containing an upload link from a service that receives photo attachments at a phone number. PhotosPlease uses the link approach, not SMS or MMS ingestion. Guests open the browser destination and choose files directly from their device.

Three different workflows can hide behind the same phrase

A guest can send a photograph to the couple in a private conversation, receive a text linking to a shared album or use a provider that explicitly accepts attachments at a dedicated number. These workflows have different operators, costs and privacy implications.

For a collection link, the message is only the invitation. The upload happens on the website after the recipient opens it. For direct attachments, someone or some service must receive, store and organize those files. Do not assume a normal phone number automatically feeds a wedding gallery.

Choose the workflow before writing the instructions. If your message says text us your photos but you actually need guests to open a link, people may reply with attachments and create the fragmented collection you were trying to avoid.

Compare the options by the work they create

This table describes workflow categories, not an endorsement of an unverified SMS provider. Check current terms with any service offering a receiving number.

Use wording that makes the link action unmistakable

Original invitation wording: We would love a few of your wedding favourites. Please open our photo album using the link below and upload the original files from your phone. You do not need to reply with attachments. We will review the collection before sharing it with invited guests.

For a follow-up: Thank you for the memories you have already sent. If you have more favourites, the same album link is open until the date below. Please keep your originals until you see the upload confirmation. Contact us privately if a picture should remain for the couple only.

Replace references such as tomorrow with a calendar date when the message might be read later. Add the couple's names so a forwarded invitation still makes sense. Keep the purpose close to the link rather than burying it in a long wedding update.

Do not promise that every messaging attachment is the original

The delivered result can depend on the messaging system, device settings and route. Apple's current iPhone guide, for example, describes sending smaller photo previews before full-resolution images and notes different behaviour under Low Data Mode. That is a reason to check the received file, not to claim that every text always destroys quality.

If archival quality matters, ask for an appropriate direct original-file route and test it with the actual devices. Compare a received file's dimensions and appearance rather than relying only on its thumbnail in the conversation.

A browser upload service can preserve the file it receives, but it cannot recover detail removed before submission. Uploading a screenshot of a photograph does not turn it back into the camera original. Explain this gently without making contributors feel they need technical expertise to help.

Verify a dedicated receiving number before printing it

If you choose a provider that offers text-to-album ingestion, ask which countries and messaging routes it supports, whether guests face carrier charges and whether the number is dedicated to your event. Confirm supported media and any size or count limits.

Test from the kinds of phones your guests use and inspect what happens after receipt. Does the provider send an acknowledgement? Are attachments held for review or immediately visible? What happens if a message arrives after the collection closes? These are questions to verify, not capabilities to infer.

Record who controls the number and how the files can be exported. A provider's marketing phrase about effortless texting does not answer the archive question. Do not print an untested number on invitations that cannot easily be corrected.

Handle attachments sent to the couple without losing context

Some people will reply with pictures even when you request link uploads. Decide whether you will transfer those files manually with permission or send a polite clarification. Avoid maintaining an undocumented mixture of both approaches.

If you transfer a file, retain enough context to identify the contributor and intended audience. Do not assume a picture shared privately with one person was intended for a guest gallery or public display.

Mark the source register once the file has been handled so you do not request it again. Keep the original conversation available until the transferred copy has been checked, then manage that conversation according to your own privacy and storage choices.

Make help available without collecting account credentials

A guest who cannot open a link may be using a restricted in-app browser, an unavailable connection or a mistyped address. Ask what they see and offer a simple route, such as opening the verified link in their usual browser or trying later.

Do not ask for their device password, cloud account or complete photo library. If in-person help is welcome, let the guest choose the files and control their own device. The goal is a selected contribution, not access to unrelated personal media.

For guests who do not use smartphones, accept that another trusted person may help submit permitted files later. Explain the attribution and audience so assistance does not accidentally turn a private family photograph into a public contribution.

From PhotosPlease

Text the app link, then upload in the browser

PhotosPlease supports a shareable event link and QR code. Guests open the link, choose supported files and upload without creating guest accounts. It does not provide a receiving phone number, ingest SMS or MMS attachments, or automatically send invitation and reminder texts.

Use your own established communication channel to send the invitation manually. The organizer should test the link and the selected plan's download route before asking guests to contribute. A text marked delivered only confirms the invitation channel's state; it is not proof that wedding files reached the album.

Questions and answers

Can guests text photographs directly into PhotosPlease?

No. PhotosPlease currently uses browser uploads, not SMS or MMS attachment ingestion. You can send the event link in a text message, and recipients can open it to submit files. Make that distinction explicit in the invitation.

Is texting a link the same as sending photo attachments?

No. A link directs the recipient to a separate destination, while an attachment sends media through the conversation's own system. The receiving and organizing steps differ, so choose one primary workflow and describe it accurately.

Will texting always reduce photo quality?

There is no single rule that covers every messaging route and setting. Check the received files and the relevant service guidance. For the archive, request an appropriate original-file transfer and avoid screenshots or saved previews when originals are available.

Does the app automatically remind guests by text?

No. Invitation and reminder messages must be sent through your own communication channel. Use a clear deadline and keep participation optional.

What if someone replies with attachments anyway?

Ask whether you may add those files to the intended collection, or gently resend the upload instructions. If you transfer them manually, keep contributor context and verify the result. Private receipt does not automatically authorize broader display.

Are guest texting charges included in an album package?

Do not assume that. Charges depend on the communication route, carrier and any receiving-number service you choose. Confirm current terms for your guests' locations. Our browser collection is not a carrier plan or an included SMS allowance.
