Disposable camera calculator for weddings

This disposable camera calculator works out how many single-use cameras to buy for a wedding. Enter the number of guests, how many sit at each table and how many cameras you want per table. It shows the number of tables, the cameras to buy and the most photos you can get back.

Tables
10
Cameras to buy
10
Photos at most
270

That is about 3.4 photos per guest if every frame is used.

The sum behind it

Tables are guests divided by guests per table, rounded up. Cameras are tables times cameras per table. Photos are cameras times the exposures in each camera. The number of exposures is printed on the box; 27 and 39 are common sizes, so check yours and choose it in the calculator.

Worked example for 27-exposure cameras, 8 guests per table, 1 camera per table

What the number does not tell you

The result is an upper limit. In practice some cameras come back half used, and some frames are too dark, blurred or taken of the floor. Film also has to be developed and scanned, which adds cost and time. Ask the lab for its price per camera before you order.

Tips for cameras on tables

  • Choose cameras with a flash and tell guests to use it indoors.
  • Put a small card beside each camera that says what to do.
  • Name one person to collect every camera at the end of the night.
  • Add a few spares for the dance floor and the bar.

How to use it

  1. Enter the number of guests and how many sit at each table.
  2. Choose how many cameras you want on each table and the exposures per camera.
  3. Read the number of cameras to buy and the most photos you can expect.
  4. Optionally enter the price of one camera to see the total for cameras.

Example: 80 guests at tables of 8, with one 27-exposure camera per table, need 10 cameras and give at most 270 photos.

From PhotosPlease

The same idea without film

PhotosPlease has a disposable camera mode. Each guest gets a fixed number of shots on their own phone, with optional film looks, and you can keep the photos hidden until a reveal time you choose. Nothing has to be collected, developed or scanned.
